Don't Mall
Yourself to Debt... Page 2
continued
Yes, free enterprise is alive and well in North America. Malls have a right to exist.
People are free to shop where they want. But "Joe Citizen" must be aware, wary
and use some common sense regards shopping. Planning a trip to the mall can be a draining
experience on the pocket book for those who cannot afford to let hard earned money bleed
from their bank account. Don't be mauled by the mall. With just a little planning, one can
escape relatively unscathed from a trip to the nearest
super-duper-one-stop-shopping-extravaganza.
- Never shop when you are angry because you are buying to get even.
- Never shop when you are sad because your better judgement is on hold while you work
through your mood swing.
- Never buy to impress.
- Never buy when in a nostalgic mood.
- Never buy to keep up with the Jones's.
- Never shop as a recreation. There are beautiful FREE parks to use for recreation. Go for
a walk on a heritage main street. Pursue a hobby. Do not spend your leisure time walking a
mall. Always shop with a list and stick to it to avoid impulse shopping.
- Never make the mall an entertainment destination for your young family. You are
introducing them to "mall mentality" at a most impressionable age.
- Never shop malls with older children who know you can't say no to their demands.
- Only shop malls when it is necessary to purchase an item you NEED, and cannot get
elsewhere. Shop from your list. Get in - and out quickly if you are at all prone to
impulse shopping.
